OFF-SITE TREATMENT FOR INJURED ANIMALS While our team of veterinarians are constantly monitoring the health of our resident elephants, leopards and Sloth bears across Wildlife SOS centres, sometimes they have to leave their home turf to attend to animal emergencies.
Our teams carry mobile equipment to administer treatment to animals left injured by a vehicular accident, a poacher’s snare, or from situations of human-wildlife conflict. Often, the vets are required to travel to other states as well, to provide urgent medical aid to animals at treatment facilities located there. | READ MORE
TREATING DENTAL INJURIES IN SLOTH BEARS ‘Dancing’ bears were victims of painful trauma. Many suffer from broken teeth that were smashed at a young age to reduce the risk to its owner. Severe dental infections followed because exposed roots, rotting teeth and mouth ulcerations were all left untreated. SLOTH BEAR SEIZED FROM SMUGGLERS Keeping India free of ‘dancing’ bears takes diligence. Thankfully, the West Bengal Forest Department quickly dispatched a team of officers to seize a bear from illegal custody. The bear, whom we have lovingly named Baloo, will be under the long-term care of Wildlife SOS. INTRODUCING CHILDREN TO NATURE CONSERVATION Conversations about nature conservation with children can have a compelling effect not only on them, but also on the environment. These chats can happen both indoors and outdoors, and can become an excellent way to bond with children. To know how you can engage kids with nature, follow our read on! ELLA, THE OLDEST ELEPHANT AT WILDLIFE SOS Ella is 79 years of age. She was rescued from horribly abusive conditions in 2013. On the same day, another female elephant named Erika was rescued and brought to the Elephant Rehabilitation Centre, where the two of them instantly greeted each other with excited rumbles!
