This way for fairer shea!

How to tag your favourite beauty brand and ask them to go Fairtrade

At Fairtrade, we believe that beauty products shouldn’t cost the earth or compromise on human rights. By using Fairtrade shea butter in their products, our favourite ethical beauty brands can be part of an inspiring story of communities investing in a fairer future.

How it works

When you tag a brand, it sends a notification to their social media account. So that company will see lots of people suggesting they look into working with the women entrepreneurs making Fairtrade shea butter.

Afterwards, we’ll follow up to let companies know how they can invest in these women's efforts to use Fairtrade to drive positive change in their communities.

How to tag a brand

Step 1: View our post on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. You can ‘tag’ on any of these channels in exactly the same way. If you don’t use any of these platforms, there’s details below about how you can still get involved.

Step 2. 'Tag' your favourite or most used beauty brand. To tag a brand, either ‘reply’ to our post on Twitter or ‘comment’ on our post on Instagram or Facebook.

To find the brand you want to tag, type the @ symbol followed by the name of the brand (don’t leave any spaces). The brand you wish to tag should then appear in a menu and you can select this, although be aware not all brands will be on all social media platforms. See below for an example of someone 'tagging' The Body Shop, one of the most popular choices so far.

You don’t need to add anything else to your message before you click to post – but if you’d like to write a further message encouraging them to go Fairtrade please feel free. Keep any message positive and encouraging to help get the brand’s attention.

Step 3. Sit back and wait for any replies! If the brand you tagged respond, please thank them and send them a positive message about working with Fairtrade. Don't worry if the brand you tagged doesn't respond. Our team will also follow up privately.

Not on social media?

We’d still love it you could get in touch with your favourite brand and encourage them to start using Fairtrade shea butter in their products. The website of your favourite brand will usually have an email address, contact form or postal address where you can reach them.

Your message can simply ask them to look in to using Fairtrade shea butter, and include a weblink to find out more. This page will deliver all the info they need: https://www.fairtrade.org.uk/for-business/fairtrade-sourcing/fairtrade-shea/
