FIGHTING FOR ELEPHANT MOTI The beautiful tusker never stood a chance against cruelty and greed. Late January, Wildlife SOS was alerted to the struggles of a bull elephant who had fallen and was unable to get up. Our caregivers and veterinarians are prepared for almost anything, but they were shocked to see the deplorable condition of poor Moti’s left front foot and right front leg. He was unable to bear any weight on his front limbs.
Thank you for your kind words of support and encouragement. Our valiant caregivers are leading a heroic effort to help the injured bull. At just 35 years old, Moti deserved so much better. READ MORE ABOUT MOTI | WATCH VIDEOS ABOUT MOTI
Moti’s eating and drinking have improved since we first arrived, and our dedicated team of veterinarians is comforting him, managing his pain and caring for his severe injuries. Unfortunately, Moti is still laying on his side and is too weak to turn, even with assistance. An elephant’s movement is critical to circulation and healing, so his continued lack of movement has our team extremely concerned. Moti is a fighter and our veterinarians will not give up on him, but as every day passes, his future becomes more uncertain.
WE know that YOU know to never, ever ride elephants or exploit wildlife for entertainment, but do your friends and family know? Please spread the word and help more elephants like Moti. Share the Refuse to Ride website for education, and sign and share the petition.
HELPING INJURED BIRDS OF MAKAR SANKRANTI Wildlife SOS collaborated with Eco Rescuers Foundation to host and fund a free Bird Treatment Camp in Malviya Nagar, Jaipur. The four-day camp was set up on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, a festival where bird casualties are at their highest due to rampant kite-flying. LEOPARD CONSERVATION TRAINING FOR GUARDS Every year Wildlife SOS collaborates with the forest department to host training for the future guardians of India’s forests. Our rescue operations form excellent case studies for the trainees taking part in the programme. They were also introduced to a variety of rescue equipment such as snare poles, safety nets, to name a few. FIVE LEOPARDS RESCUED IN A MONTH 2022 ended on a dramatic note with multiple leopard rescues in Maharashtra. The Wildlife SOS team operating out of the Manikdoh Leopard Rescue Centre covered a lot of ground in the state, and ended up rescuing five leopards in a single month across three different forest ranges.
