While Westminster stumbles from leader to leader and snap election to snap election, it's the proportionally elected parliaments of the UK that have seen stability. The Conservative party will now start to organise a leadership contest, so we've updated our article from 2016 on how they work. We also published a piece back in January how other countries around the world decide who the Prime Minister should be.
While the government has been imposing First Past the Post on elections we take part in, they don't use it themselves. It begs the question that if the Conservatives really think that First Past the Post is a suitable electoral system for important jobs, why don't they use it to elect their leader?
