Magai spent nearly three years on death row, most of that as a minor. It’s a clear violation of international human rights law — the UN Convention on the Rights of a Child, to which South Sudan is a state party.
While he was appealing his case, at least two other people were executed in South Sudan for crimes they were convicted of while they were just children.
That’s why, while we fought for Magai’s release, we fight for others, too. We expose the injustice of each individual case, fight for accountability, and change laws.
null, we will never look away from human rights abuses like those experienced by Magai, and as an ongoing Amnesty donor, you surely feel the same way. Sending letters calls attention to their case, builds pressure for their release — and reminds them that they’re not forgotten.
When we act together, we can help people like Magai win their freedom and justice. Make your year-end gift now to take advantage of this 3X match and help support children and other individuals at risk into 2023 and beyond.
With gratitude for everyone in the Amnesty community,
