Dear supporter, In the middle of an industrial landscape, piglets in factory farms find themselves amidst a world starkly different from the natural realm their ancestors once roamed. Born into a world where concrete walls replace forest canopies and metal cages replace cozy nests, their dreadful journey begins. Even on a farm, just a few decades ago, mother pigs could have built a nest of straw to keep their piglets warm. They'd teach their young to explore the outdoors, enjoy the sunshine and cool off in mud puddles. But what they experience today, from behind the closed doors of factory farms, is vastly different.
|
| The horrificly cruel cage pictured here is inadequately termed a "farrowing crate." In the U.S., they are used to confine the majority of new mother pigs. | |
| Piglets today see the line of their brothers and sisters get shorter as they wait their turn to have their tails cut back, their ears notched and their teeth cut—all without pain relief. The squeals of their family members fill their ears. Their mothers are unable to protect them as they are locked away in a cage so small they can barely move. Painful sores develop from being forced to lie on hard, filthy surfaces. She cannot find relief let alone turn around to nuzzle her piglets. |
| In the U.S., there is no federal ban on farrowing crates (pictured above), which means female piglets born today will likely experience the same caged life as their mothers. They'll be forcibly impregnated and cruelly confined, and the horrific cycle of exploitation will repeat until we end it. |
Together we will stop their needless suffering.Piglets born in factory farms will see and experience so much suffering. But what they don't know is that you see it too. You're an animal lover. One of the hardest parts of advocating to end factory farming is being brave enough to witness what animals go through on a daily basis. It can feel hopeless for us, just as it does for them. But there is something you can do. By making a monthly gift today, our friends at the Greenbaum Foundation will provide an incredible 12x match. |
| This amazing opportunity won't last long. We've got until April 8 to achieve our goal of 100 new monthly gifts for farmed animals. Will you help us reach that milestone to save animals from suffering? |
You make change happen.Together, we've already achieved landmark victories for animals: |
11 states have passed laws to ban gestation crates. 40% of the U.S. pork industry uses group housing instead of gestation crates, and that number is expected to rise. We won the Supreme Court case to protect the sale requirements of Prop 12, which bans the use of gestation crates for pork sold in the state. We help food retailers and producers move away from factory farming: Over 2.5 billion farmed animals are set to benefit every year.

Your gift is so powerful. The donation you give now can achieve more life-changing victories for farmed animals. It can help: |
show the world that ending factory farming is vital if we're to have a cruelty-free and sustainable food supply; protect state rights to enact ethical sales policies such as restricting gestation crates; persuade big businesses to improve their animal welfare policies and transform millions of animals’ lives; and encourage government agencies to spread the "eat less, eat better" message to help reduce the demand for meat, dairy and eggs.
|
| Right now, most pigs spend nearly half of their unnaturally short lives in cages. They are highly intelligent animals who dream and communicate with one another. We can't stand by while they suffer. I hope we can count on your 12x-matched monthly donation today. On behalf of piglets trapped in factory farms, thank you for acting with compassion. |
