For decades, whales and dolphins have suffered in concrete tanks, performing tricks for human entertainment around the world. Our research exposed the cruelty behind the dolphin entertainment industry and we’re turning that evidence into action.

From influencing Canada’s ban on keeping and breeding cetaceans, to supporting sanctuary development in Europe and policy change in Mexico, we’re helping to create real solutions for these intelligent, social animals.

Right here in Canada, we’re proud to support a groundbreaking project that will give captive whales and dolphins a more natural home.

This October, the Nova Scotia government approved the issuing of a 20-year lease (with renewal option) for the Whale Sanctuary Project site in Port Hilford Bay, Nova Scotia - a major milestone that allows construction to begin on North America’s first seaside sanctuary for captive whales and dolphins.

Once complete, this sanctuary will finally offer these animals something they’ve never had in captivity: room to swim, the rhythms of the ocean and a peaceful environment that supports healing and their natural behaviours.
