UBC's Data Science & Health Cluster (DASH) sponsored the talk “Fighting Misinformation at Scale: AI and Health Equity” by Dr. Meaghan Thumath (HERO Lab, UBC Nursing) on April 9, 2026 at the Transforming Health Symposium.

Dr. Thumath powerfully noted, “If we’re using AI to drive major innovations like advances in cancer care, patients need to trust us enough to walk through our doors. Without that trust, they won’t benefit from these breakthroughs.”

No more ‘just say no’ — Canadian schools will soon have a roadmap to address student substance use
A new cross-Canada standard sets out what evidence-informed substance use prevention, education and intervention should look like from kindergarten through Grade 12 (K-12). The new standard was developed through a national partnership between Wellstream: The Canadian Centre for Innovation in Child and Youth Mental Health and Substance Use led by Dr. Emily Jenkins at UBC, the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction and the Canadian Association of School System Administrators.
