Dear friend,

We know firsthand that fighting for animal protection can be emotionally challenging. Every day, we confront the heartbreaking realities of animal suffering. But today, we want to share some good news that will uplift your spirits and fuel your passion for creating a better world for animals.

These stories of success and progress are a testament to our collective efforts and remind us that change is not only possible but achievable.

Here are some of those good news stories:

  • The Jane Goodall Act passed the first vote in the Senate and is now going to committee for further study. This monumental bill will change the lives of wild animals in Canada forever!
  • The Climate Aligned Finance Act, also passed in the Senate and is going to committee. This law would help us pressure financial institutions towards reducing investments in climate intensive livestock and factory farming, thereby reducing animal suffering.
  • Our efforts to fight for the end to Ontario’s roadside zoos have resulted in concrete action! The Ontario PAWS inspectorate has issued orders and filed charges against zoos, responding to our report and complaints filed last September.

... but wait, there’s more! Continue reading:

Why can anyone own a zoo in Ontario?

We graded the provinces across Canada based on their rules and regulations around captive wildlife, and Ontario ranked dead last.

Shockingly, you don’t need expertise or even a licence to operate a zoo or buy dangerous animals like a tiger or lion in Ontario... this is why the province has dozens of under-regulated roadside zoos and over one thousand wild animals being held captive in degrading conditions.

Learn more about Ontario’s roadside zoo problem, and what we are doing to make sure this year is the last year for roadside zoos:

Did you know that small changes can have a huge impact on animals and the planet?

By swapping one meal a week for a meatless meal, you are reducing your carbon footprint by almost 4kgs, reducing precious freshwater and land use, and of course, reducing the demand for factory farming, giving animals better lives too.

So next time you barbeque, try swapping your beef burger for a plant-based burger like Tiffany. Or why not try tofu like Lianna and Lynn – there are so many ways to cook tofu, don’t underestimate it! Kelly is a cheese lover, but she has found a delicious oat-based alternative and you can too.

Learn how the World Animal Protection team is eating more plant-based by incorporating easy (and tasty) alternatives into their week:

Planning your next vacation? Make sure to leave riding an elephant off your bucket-list!

Riding an elephant may seem like an innocuous activity... they’re so big, can they even feel you on their back? What you may not see right away is the cruelty. As wild animals, elephants would never freely let a human ride on their back, so how are they “trained” to behave? The brutal reality of it is these animals are often stolen from the wild, put through traumatic training processes, and kept in chains in solitary confinement.

There are so many reasons why you should leave riding an elephant off your bucket list, here are 7 of them:
