Hi friend,
As the leading charity dedicated to improving the lives of young people involved in Canada's child welfare system, we are committed to partnering with members of the community we serve. The Children's Aid Foundation of Canada Young People's Advisory Council (YPAC) was founded in 2013 to ensure people with recent lived child welfare experience (i.e. former youth in care) regularly guide our work. YPAC advisors provide critical insight and advice that helps us better support young people and families affected by child welfare across Canada.
As a member of YPAC, you would have the opportunity to collaborate with a team of youth advocates and staff with diverse experiences and perspectives to shape the priorities and positioning of the Foundation; as a team we collaborate on how to best address barriers and gaps faced by young people and families through philanthropy (fundraising and granting). Members share insights from their experiences and expertise about the sector, providing recommendations to the Foundation as it develops, refines, and evaluates its program development, fundraising, granting and awareness-raising initiatives. YPAC also represents the Foundation in the wider community at our events and beyond.
This is an awesome opportunity to contribute your expertise, ideas, and leadership to help address the barriers and inequities facing young people in and from care, strengthen the organization and the sector, and build relationships with like-minded people committed to making Canada better for young people.
Benefits and accessibility:
- Recognition as a Foundation advisor and valued part of the team
- Opportunity to advise on support gaps and address barriers facing young people in/from care
- Opportunity to develop valuable experience serving on an advisory committee (references available)
- Opportunity to network and develop relationships with like-minded advocates, staff, donors and volunteers (which may help with career prospects)
- Receive an honorarium for advisory role on Council ($200/meeting attended)
- In addition to payment for advisory services, honoraria are intended to also cover travel and any other costs of participation, including child care. Meals provided at meetings, gender neutral washroom, ramp and elevator onsite; please let us know if you require additional accommodations!
