Dear Friend, Last month we announced our new and exciting partnership with Very Good Security (VGS), who will be helping us enhance the security of credit card transactions made on Engaging Networks hosted forms. If you missed that announcement, you can read it here. We wanted to remind you that the new Credit Card Number and CVV “token” field type will be available after our next release on January 12th. That’s less than 6 weeks away, so it’s something you should start thinking about and planning for now. The current Credit Card Number and CVV field type will continue to be available through the end of February, allowing you time to make the changes you need to make before everything is switched over in March. If you haven’t done so already, please take the time to read through the page on our Supportal about this update. It’s a busy time of year, so it may feel overwhelming to be thinking about this now, but even a little bit of advanced planning will go a long way towards making this a smooth transition for you and your team. Even just writing down a quick plan and timeline will help you to hit the ground running in January. Here’s what we would recommend you plan to do once the release rolls around: Duplicate your main donation page (especially the one with any customizations you may have around the credit card fields). Go in and unlink the form block (if needed) that holds the credit card and CVV fields. This step is important as you will want to test your form first before updating it across the board (this is also where using linked form components really comes in handy!). Switch the Credit Card Number and CVV fields to the “token” field type. Test your form. Look at it in various browsers and on different devices, make some test donations as well. Make sure that everything looks right and works right. Repeat this same process for any other forms you may have with a different layout or additional custom code. Once you are confident that your forms look good after the switch and function as they should, go ahead and make the change on a form with a saved form block so that the update will cascade across all of your active pages.
What do you do if you make the switch on your test page and something goes wrong? We have been hard at work testing a variety of partner-built client templates as well as our own free templates available out-of-the-box. If you are using our free & flexible or accessible-ready templates, without any additional customization around the credit card fields, you should have no problems with the transition to the new ‘token’ field type. Hooray! If your pages have custom code, specifically related to the credit card fields, you may run into some formatting trouble. This is why it is important to follow the steps above and to test thoroughly before making any changes across the board. Most of the issues we have seen are related to the UI. For example, the Credit Card Number and CVV boxes are enlarged, and the Credit Card number field has two card icons. These can be easily fixed by someone with knowledge of how your pages are built, and our Supportal page contains further customizations that can be applied towards fixing potential issues. We strongly recommend reaching out to the person or agency who built your templates to start planning for this update. Need some extra help?
