Hi
May is National Walking Month our campaign this year is to share the #MagicOfWalking and encourage people to #Try20 – which is to walk for 20 minutes each day. As part of our month-long celebration, we’re also getting ready for Walk to School Week, which is just two school days away (20-24 May).
As a WOW school, we know the walk to school is already very important to you, but why not take it to the next level and encourage pupils to travel actively to school every day during Walk to School Week (20-24 May)!
Here are a few fun ideas and resources to get you started:
- Share our free five-day activity diary with families to do on their walk to school and to keep pupils motivated each day of the week.
- Encourage pupils to become walk to school detectives by trying to spot all items in our scavenger hunt (Welsh version here) on their journey in.
- Hand out this Strider template (Welsh version here) for pupils to draw or write what they saw on their walk to school.
- Host a #MagicOfWalking themed non-uniform day and challenge the pupils to come in to school dressed up as their favourite magical character or creature.
WOW 24/25 Badge Designs Revealed
Last month, we announced the 11 winning designers of the WOW Badge Design Competition. The theme was ‘Walk with imagination’ which challenged pupils to picture a different walk to school and draw where their imagination took them!
Now, we are ready to unveil what the final badges will look like! Check them out below and congratulations again to the 11 pupils whose drawings will feature on our 24/25 WOW badges.

Summer WOW Top Ten
We’re excited to announce that next month marks the start of our summer term WOW Top Ten challenge. The challenge will run throughout June, so encourage children and their families to get outside, enjoy the sunshine and travel actively to school as much as possible throughout the month. The aim is to climb your way up the local and national leaderboard and make it into the WOW Top Ten! The WOW Top Ten boosts pupils’ engagement in WOW and increases schools’ active travel rates. Find more information and lots of colourful resources, such as posters, certificates and shareables to promote and celebrate the challenge at the link below.
