NEWS UBC’s newest state-of-the-art fitness centre opens UBC Vancouver has tripled indoor fitness and recreation space with the opening of Recreation Centre North. This year’s UBC Homecoming features the Nestor’s Gym Reception, the official dedication of the new, state-of-the-art gymnasium named after UBC Intramurals’ own Nestor Korchinsky. NEWS Fifteen Individuals appointed to the Order of British ColumbiaFifteen people who exemplify excellence will be invested into the Order of British Columbia, the province’s highest honour. Established in 1989, the Order of B.C. recognizes individuals from all walks of life and fields of endeavour who have made extraordinary contributions to the province and beyond. The 2025 Order of B.C. Recipients include Dr. Ruth Grunau, MA’69, EdD’75, PhD’85, for her pioneering research that has transformed global understanding and care of infant pain, advancing neonatal health of infants born very pre-term and shaping clinical practices worldwide.

Over his 25-year career in education, Charlie has taught high school mathematics, supported distributed learning, and worked as a teacher-on-call. He has also supported student-athletes in running, triathlon, baseball, and hockey as a coach, team manager, and board member.

Dr. Thomas Roy BentleyIt is with sorrow that we share the passing of Dr. Thomas Roy Bentley, Professor Emeritus in the Department of Language and Literacy Education (LLED) on April 10, 2025. A valued member of the Faculty of Education for over two decades and former Dean pro tem (1979-81), he is remembered for his scholarly excellence, intellectual curiosity, collegiality and steadfast commitment to education, community and family.
