Because of you, bears at the Balkasar Bear Sanctuary in Pakistan stayed safe and healthy through one of the hottest summers on record – temperatures soared past 40°C! 🥵

Sanctuary staff noticed some bears struggling with the heat: panting, low energy and the classic “I’m melting” sprawl.

Thanks to your support, staff could launch “Operation Bear Shower”: overflowing pools into muddy lounges, setting up generator-powered misters and creating cool rain showers in every enclosure.

The transformation was instant - bears twirled in the spray, stretched their paws to the sky and lined up rump-first for the perfect cooldown. Now, twice-daily “rain parties” are part of their routine, turning a dangerous heatwave into moments of pure joy.

Documenting suffering in Ontario’s roadside zoos

This summer, our team visited some of Ontario’s worst roadside zoos. What we saw was heartbreaking – bears, lions, monkeys and other animals trapped in small, barren cages, pacing in distress. With a camera in hand, we documented their suffering to show why stronger regulations are urgently needed. It was difficult to witness, but necessary to share.
