At Balkasar Bear Sanctuary, these two rescued bears now spend their days side by side – wandering the grass, splashing in the water, sometimes simply resting together in the sun.

Not long ago, their lives were controlled and confined. They were exploited for entertainment, with little space and no freedom to live naturally.

Today, they have room to roam. And they have each other.

Thanks to supporters like you, animals like Brune and Bardy can leave exploitation behind and begin again – safely and together.

Global report reveals the true cost of factory farming

This month, we also asked a hard question: What is factory farming really costing us?

Not just in numbers – but in animal suffering, polluted waterways and rising health risks.

In Canada, we consume more than double the global average of factory-farmed animals.‼️That means the pressure on animals and on our environment is happening here, too.

That’s why we released the Factory Farming Index – the first global study to measure the impact of factory farming across 151 countries. Because to change a system, you first have to understand it.

Clear, credible data gives us the power to challenge harmful practices, push governments harder and demand meaningful reform.

Real protection isn’t only about helping after harm happens. It’s about stopping harm before it starts.

When disasters strike, animals are often the most vulnerable

Floods. Wildfires. Earthquakes. Conflict. Again and again, animals are left with little protection – especially those kept in crowded farming facilities with no way to escape.

Here in Canada, the devastating floods in Abbotsford showed how quickly animals can be left without protection when planning falls short. It was a painful reminder that preventable suffering continues when systems fail.

Moments like these are hard to witness. But they also show how much it matters that someone cares.

From kangaroos brought to safety after Australia’s bushfires to animals evacuated from the war in Ukraine, second chances begin because people choose to step in.
