This month, we’re celebrating some meaningful progress for animals around the world. Rescued monkeys are finally returning to the wild, British Columbia is moving forward with stronger protections for exotic wild cats and momentum is growing for a kinder food system right here in Canada. These victories show what’s possible when people come together to protect animals, people and the planet.

We’re also excited to share progress on our work to help transform Canada’s food system.

Just last month, thousands of supporters like you raised your voices to demand a more sustainable, plant-based future for our country.

Carrying that incredible public momentum straight to decision-makers, our team was recently in Ottawa meeting with parliamentarians. Alongside delegates from Denmark, who successfully launched the world’s first national plant-based action plan, we advocated for Canada to adopt its own National Plant-Based Strategy.

Together, we showed leaders how plant-based policies can directly support farmers, strengthen our food systems, reduce animal suffering and help address climate change. Because thousands of you chose to speak up, animals are part of the conversation at the highest levels of government.

Rescued monkeys return to the wild

Not long ago, Jono and 30 other macaques lived in chains after being taken from the wild and forced to perform as “dancing monkeys” on the streets of Indonesia. When they were rescued, many were frightened, injured and traumatized.

But because of compassionate supporters like you, friend, they were given a second chance.

With the help of our partner Jakarta Animal Aid Network, the monkeys slowly began to heal. They received medical care, formed family groups and learned how to climb, play and trust again.

Now, Jono and several of the rescued monkeys have finally reached their new forest home- where they can explore the trees and begin living as wild monkeys once again.

Plant-based eating takes the spotlight this spring

More people than ever are discovering how delicious plant-based meals can be and this spring, we helped bring that excitement to the Toronto Food & Drink Fest alongside Michelin-trained chef Romain Avril.

Together, we showcased a fresh seasonal recipe celebrating Canadian-grown ingredients, showing how easy and flavourful plant-based cooking can be. As more people embrace plant-based meals, momentum continues to grow for a kinder food system that’s better for animals, people and the planet.

Speak up for cows in Canada – before June 13!

Time is running out to help improve protections for millions of cows in Canada.

Right now, the ‘Code of Practice for the Care and Handling of Beef Cattle’ is open for public comment – but only until June 13. This rare opportunity does not come around often, and your voice can help push for stronger animal welfare standards.

From painful procedures to crowded feedlots and exposure to extreme weather, too many cows are still suffering with little protection. By speaking up before the deadline, you can help demand better for animals raised in Canada’s industrial farming system.

An evening with our supporters in Vancouver

In April, we brought together a dedicated group of supporters at the beautiful VanDusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver for an evening focused on the impact our community is helping to create for animals.

Moments like these are a powerful reminder that real change doesn’t happen in isolation. It happens because people choose to show up, ask questions and stay committed.

At the event, Erin Ryan, our wildlife campaign manager, was able to share a thrilling live update: British Columbia is officially moving forward with changes to ban the breeding, sale and ownership of exotic wild cats! This victory belongs to the thousands of compassionate supporters like you who took action to protect these animals. It was incredibly special to celebrate that momentum in person with the community that drives our mission forward.

The evening’s conversations were thoughtful, informed and at times challenging. That kind of dialogue pushes us to do better. It reinforces that our supporters and donors aren’t just contributors— they are true partners in this mission.
