Kentucky’s bobcats need your help. The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources is proposing to double the number of bobcats a person can kill each season from five to ten and create a new and dangerous night hunting season. The Interim Joint Committee on Natural Resources and Energy is scheduled to consider the regulation soon, making now a critical time to urge your legislators to speak out against these harmful changes.

KDFWR’s own biologists have raised concerns about the lack of reliable population data for bobcats. Doubling the bag limit without adequate data could put these shy, ecologically important native wildcats at unnecessary risk.

The proposed regulation comes as Kentucky also prepares to allow bobcats to be hunted at night for the first time. The state’s biologists have expressed concerns about night hunting due to the risks of poaching, as well as concerns about public safety and fair chase. Kentucky’s wildcats deserve stronger protections, not greater threats.
