Give Hope Wings kicks off at YVR

Last week, Vancouver International Airport hosted Hope Air partners, volunteers, pilots and supporters to celebrate their commitment and to kick off the annual Give Hope Wings Expedition. Give Hope Wings ambassadors Bristol and Henry were in attendance to share their Hope Air journey and the importance of Give Hope Wings.

The expedition launches June 6th and is touching down in all Canadian provinces along the way!

Give Hope Wings launches Coast to Coast expedition this June

The squadron of pilots will be flying from Victoria B.C. to St. John’s N.L. concluding in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Q.C.. This year’s expedition aims to raise $1 million to fund 2,800 medical flights and drive awareness of Hope Air’s mission to help all Canadian access vital care.

Meet the Give Hope Wings Organizers

Give Hope Wings is Hope Air’s biggest volunteer led event. This year’s squadron is led by Chief Pilot Dave McElroy and Expedition Captains Steve Drinkwater, Basie Spies, Lee Arsenault and Marilyn Staig.

Steve Drinkwater

Steve is an an active member of the aviation community and volunteer with Hope Air. Steve is a long-time supporter of Hope Air and believes strongly in its mission. He has dedicated much time and resources in raising awareness of Hope Air such as participating once again in the annual Give Hope Wings expedition.

Basie Spies

One of Hope Air’s strongest supporters and top volunteer fundraiser is Basie Spies. After 26 years as gynecological surgeon, he decided to spread his wings and use his piloting skills to serve the medical community across Canada and joined Hope Air as a Volunteer Pilot and Expedition Captain in 2021.

Lee Arsenault & Marilyn Staig

This husband-and-wife duo are long-time supporters of Hope Air and are excited to get back in the cockpit for the Give Hope Wings Coast to Coast Expedition. They have not only volunteered with Hope Air to fly patients to and from medical appointments since 2016, but have also actively led numerous fundraising events in support of Hope Air.

Follow along the journey with Logan

Logan Daly-Doersam will be joining the expedition to document the journey across Canada. Logan will fly alongside our pilots and will pick up his 1961 Piper Colt aircraft, near Toronto, to fly the rest of the route. Logan has previously flown across Canada documenting his adventures on his social channels. Now, he will be flying with an important purpose and will take over the Hope Air channels to share the journey with you.
